“The Starship” Mega Crane Has Landed

10.03.2026

Trident Lifting Solutions Ltd successfully completed the erection of one of the world’s largest electric luffing tower cranes the STL4200 “The Starship” following its installation on a major infrastructure project in London.

The erection of the crane began on 16 February and was completed over seven days, marking a significant milestone for both Trident Lifting Solutions Ltd and the wider Statom Group. Now fully installed and operational, The Starship stands ready to support the delivery of ultra-heavy mechanical equipment and structural steel lifts on this complex development.

This project represents a landmark achievement for Trident, reinforcing the company’s commitment to delivering large-scale, purpose-driven engineering solutions. With the successful installation of The Starship, Trident has set a new benchmark for crane performance within the sector.

As part of this milestone, Trident invested £5.3 million in the next-generation luffing tower crane a high-performance piece of lifting equipment designed specifically for large-scale infrastructure delivery. The crane is capable of lifting 300 tonnes in VI falls and 23 tonnes at a 90-metre radius, significantly expanding lifting capabilities on demanding construction projects.

Looking ahead, Trident has also placed an order for a 30-metre fly jib and secondary hoist winch, which will become available next year. This upgrade will extend the crane’s maximum jib length to 120 metres, with a lifting capacity of 12.5 tonnes at maximum radius, further strengthening the company’s heavy lifting capability.

“This project was a chance to showcase what we do best. The demand for this scale of luffing tower crane is growing rapidly, and The Starship places us right at the forefront of the industry. A £5.3 million investment like this signals our ambition to be the UK’s most trusted and diverse lifting equipment partner.”
