We are proud to celebrate Sammy Green of Statom Plant, winner of the On The Tools Award at the Women in Construction Awards 2025!
Sammy joined Statom Plant in 2022 as a sweeper driver and, in just three years, has become one of the most respected operatives in our team. Entering a male dominated environment, she faced bias and assumptions but chose to prove herself through hard work, professionalism and commitment to safety. Today she is trusted with high profile projects where reliability and performance are critical.
Reflecting on her journey, Sammy shared:
“Just under three years ago, when I interviewed with Statom, I had never even held a spanner. I told my line manager that while I did not yet have the experience, I did have the work ethic and I would prove myself. Since then, it has been an incredible journey of learning and growth, and I will always be grateful to Matt for taking that chance on me.”
Among her proudest achievements was leading sweeping operations on a major infrastructure project in 2024. She delivered the work to the highest standards, with zero safety incidents, earning commendation from the client and demonstrating the value of diverse talent in plant operations.
Beyond her own role, Sammy supports new starters, mentors women entering the industry and participates in outreach events, demonstrating to others what is possible. Her approachable nature and professionalism make her an outstanding role model, inspiring the next generation to see a place for themselves in construction.
Sammy now aims to gain advanced qualifications, take on more responsibility and create structured mentoring pathways to help others succeed. Her award is recognition of her resilience, leadership and the positive change she is driving across our industry.
